Argonaut is our third entry for Cape to Rio 2020.

She is no stranger to the CAPE to RIO RACE…and is probably one of the more seasoned campaigners – this being her 4th race in the last 25 years. She competed in the 1993, 1996 & 2006 races. The 47 ft van der Stadt is built for cruising, but with one of the tallest masts and largest sails in the RCYC spinnaker fleet, her ability to hold a good broad reach has left many
more adept boats in her wake.

The Argonauts were a band of heroes from an ancient tale sung of the strongest and bravest ever assembled in Greek Mythology: “Adventurers engaged in a dangerous but rewarding Quest”.

The spirit of our campaign will be the braai burning for the entirety of our trip across the Atlantic.

Two of our crew have completed this race before and two others are seasoned racing yachties, and the balance will be made up of rail bait and strong hands. Everyone aboard is either a practicing professional or laid-back-lover, intent on delivering Argonaut to Rio safely ready for a Brazilian welcome; beards and all…
